Safer Gymnastics in New Zealand

In 2021 Gymnastics New Zealand was given recommendations from a review.

Here’s where they are at in 2023 at implementing and monitoring that plan.

This is by far the best routine I’ve seen her HIT so far.

And it’s my favourite routine of 2023. Fewer skills all connected means fewer opportunities for E-score deduction.

Kaylia is a French-Algerian artistic gymnast currently representing Algeria in international competition.  Recall that France wouldn’t clear her to compete in major FIG meets until July 2023 — too late to qualify to Worlds 2023.

Montreal 1985 was my first World Championships. For 10 days I videotaped MAG for FIG. Mostly Floor Exercise.

For us Li Ning and Tong Fei were the sensations. But the Soviet team was deep, deep:

Korolev won the AA in Montreal as well as at Worlds 1981 Moscow.

With a total of 34 individual medals at World Championships, World Cups, and European Championships competitions, Korolyov has more such medals than any other non-Olympian with Valentin Mogilny (17) being the next highest in this sort of medal count. 

Nanci Moore is back in the Gym

Nanci Moore, a gymnastics coach at Bay Valley Academy in Michigan, was suspended for allegations of mistreatment, being forced to compete through injuries, and not following concussion protocols.

Initially, she was suspended by SafeSport. But that 2 year suspension has been lifted. Nanci can coach under supervision.

It’s critical to take every accusation of misconduct seriously. And just as critical to welcome back those coaches found not guilty.
