The injury woes continue for Italy's Asia D'Amato who will likely now miss a second World Championships in a row after tearing her ACL + meniscus in Doha.

paint your toenails for Ava Costa
Ava Costa suffered a serious spinal injury during training.
Friends and family have been painting their toenails pink — to signify that they are “walking” this journey with Ava.

treating Gymnasts with Sever’s disease
Sever’s disease is inflammation of the growth plate of the heel. Very common in growing children.
Dave Tilley posted the most comprehensive information for gymnasts I’ve seen. Here’s a summary:
- Addressing problems early and head on, with great communication
- Properly resting from impact and allowing bone healing to relieve pain
- Progressing local ankle and global leg strength
- Progressing general plyometrics first before gymnastics-specific impacts
- Progressing from soft to medium, to hard surfaces gradually over two to four weeks when returning

Division I NCAA benefits 2024
The Division I Board of Directors on Wednesday unanimously adopted new rules for all Division I schools that will require increased support for college athletes. …
All Division I members who do not do so already will be required to:
- Provide medical coverage for athletically related injuries for at least two years after graduation.
- Cover out-of-pocket medical expenses (copayments, deductibles, etc.) during a student-athlete’s playing career.
- Attest that they provide mental health services and support consistent with the NCAA’s mental health best practices.
- Attest that they follow concussion management protocols in line with the NCAA Concussion Safety Protocol Checklist.
- Offer degree completion funds for up to 10 years after a college athlete’s eligibility concludes, if that college athlete was previously on full scholarship or received financial aid in a head count sport.
- Provide the same scholarship protections already required of autonomy conferences.
- Attest that they provide academic support services in line with NCAA rules.
- Attest that they provide career counseling for current and former college athletes and life skills development across a range of topics, including at minimum:

World record 1055 Circles in series
Vedant Sawant from Australia.
I once videotaped Jackson Payne doing 200 circles on Mushroom. Astonishing. Over 5 minutes long.
Click PLAY or watch Vedant on YouTube. Over 20 minutes. … 😕 … This can’t be good for the wrists. I advocate doing no more than 40 circles in series.
Oleg Verniaiev has returned
UPDATE. Oleg is now training with the National Team.
ODDS of Ukraine qualifying a full team to Paris and contending for a team medal in Paris would be increased if Oleg can get back to form.
On the other hand, Ukraine might boycott if gymnasts from RUS are allowed into the Olympics.
… Verniaiev has been able to successfully argue that he did not take meldonium intentionally and his suspension was reduced, although not annulled. He is now eligible to compete again.
Additionally, even if he does not return to competition as an athlete, the suspension also prevented him from attending international competitions as a coach or official, so he will now be able to continue working in gymnastics with no restrictions. …
hand position on Round-off
A study from 2015 — “Elbow joint variability for different hand positions of the round off in gymnastics” — concluded that what I’ve heard called the classic T position is best and safest for the elbows when doing Round-offs.
I’d agree.
Of course you can quickly find examples of top gymnasts using far different hand positions, especially in MAG. But the classic T is what I teach beginners.

more MAG Podium highlights
FIG will compile a medical report from Liverpool Worlds.
In it they will record what percentage of athletes left the competition due to injury.
Gymnasts were injured on day 1, including one of the H Bar favourites ➙ Tyson Bull. A lower back injury on H Bar.
But I felt there were fewer injuries than at past Worlds. MAG Vault landings were less horrific than in the past. Hopefully athletes are better prepared than in the past to survive a Code of Points where difficulty is so much more rewarded than quality. Hopefully.
MAG Gymnastics is really dangerous.
