I’d say it was a fall during her Team routine.

I attended the press conference at Antwerp Worlds.
The Judging Support System (JSS) is available on all 10 apparatuses. Only 7 were ready last year in Liverpool.
They are using 4 cameras on each apparatus. Eight on Floor.
Donatella said it’s only being used in case of appeal. She showed 2 good examples of how it could work:

By clicking icons on the right, a judge can check height, distance, angle, etc.
She explained it’s only being used for D-score credit at this point. Not Execution.
Donatella is looking forward to checking the D-judges after the competition using JSS. Useful for judge training.
Arturs Mickevics, the Men’t Chair, agreed that the technology works and will be useful.
Recall we’d previously seen that it’s super accurate evaluating Rings strength holds and angles.

President Watanabe was the most effusive. He wants judging that is more fair and transparent.
Personally, I was keen to find out how soon coaches can get an app for feedback in training. No timeline on that. In case of injury, we’ll be able to evaluate the athletes — and see when they get back to baseline height, distance, etc.
Fujitsu’s plans to launch something called their Human Motion Analytics platform in April 2024 which might be something that can aid in the TRAINING of gymnasts.
Of course they want graphics to be instantly available for video broadcast, as well. No timeline on that.
Aesthetically, FB CURVES 3D GYM is still far more appealing. It’s an entirely different product, of course. But still far more useful for coaches in 2023.

The BEST of the JSS video we were shown was close to FB Curves 3D, but more human. Less perfect.
Of course it’s inevitable that all the recorded data will eventually be fed into AI platforms. It will be interesting to see how good the resulting AI VIDEO interpretations will be.

Unless you are AWESOME.
FIG WTC has been hilariously bad at rating new skills in the past.
But they got Simone’s Vault difficulty correctly rated at 6.4.

We are unique in having men and women do such different apparatus in a sport commonly called Artistic Gymnastics.
There are pros and cons, of course.
There are distinct differences between men and women. It’s not always logical to have women do exactly the same sport, same rules, same equipment as men.
For one thing, women are far more likely to suffer ACL injury than men.
It makes sense to change rules and put women at lower risk of ligament tears, if possible. Different landing mats, for example.
Simone’s Yurchenko Double Pike is as good or better than any male. BUT — on average — women are more flexible, less strong than men.
…Scientific questions of relative performance lead to those of player safety, and ultimately to philosophy: what do varying opinions about changing women’s game reveal about the purpose of sport in society? …
Economist – Women are not the same as men. Should the rules and kit of their sports be?
Economist has a good podcast on the topic.
The GymCastic interview with Steve Butcher touches on some of the same points.

Elena Mukhina was the 1978 World Championships AA champion. An amazing talent for her time.
Did Elena compete the first 1 1/2 twist step-out?
Recall the tragedy when she broke her neck two weeks before the opening of the 1980 Summer Olympics, leaving her permanently quadriplegic. That was on a now-banned rollout skill on Floor. Her coach Mikhail Klimenko was blamed by Elena.
She died likely of complications from quadriplegia on 22 December 2006 (aged 46). Klimenko died of cancer age-65.

Perhaps we’ve reached the end of the beginning.
Certainly Artistic Gymnastics needs more objectivity. Trampoline is much fairer as time of flight and ability to stay in the middle of the bed is measured by machine.
The FIG has approved the official use of the Judging Support System (JSS), developed by Fujitsu, at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp (BEL) for all apparatuses. …
Furthermore, the Superior Jury will have the possibility of using the outputs provided by the JSS, as well as the IRCOS video replay system, in cases of inquiries or blocked scores. The use of cameras instead of 3D sensors means that the body data measurements that were carried out during podium training days will no longer be necessary. …
