Elisa Hämmerle – Seven Nation Army

Lauren Hopkins posted an interview with Elisa that would inspire any injured gymnast:

“It’s Always Worth Trying One More Time”

Elisa ruptured her Achilles during the Olympic Test Event Rio. Her chance to qualify for the 2016 Olympics gone.

But in February 2017, she decided to go back to the Gym to see if a 2020 Olympic spot might be possible. The return to Floor and Vault was slow because of pain in the other Achilles. That’s not uncommon.

In early 2019 Elisa moved to Netherlands to train with Patrick and Daymon and the many other top gymnasts at their club.

Elisa did qualify for the 2020 Olympics in the AA for Austria as did her PAX teammate Mandy Mohamed for Egypt.

Brooklyn Moors will compete Floor

Nina withdrew. Reserve Brooklyn will compete.

Also … Ellie Black withdrew from Beam and Kara Eaker got the spot. Heart this.

Simone’s Mic Drop

A mic drop is the gesture of intentionally dropping one’s microphone at the end of a performance or speech to signal triumph. Don’t do that … unless you are the G.O.A.T.

And you add it to your choreography at the end of the 4th apparatus. 5th AA title.

Then it’s very cool. 😊

Mykayla Skinner suggested it to her, getting the idea from a fan.

NEW Boguinskaia interview

Now that Simone won in the same arena, let’s look back at the 1989 Stuttgart World Champion.

Dvora Meyers:

Thirty years ago, the Soviet squad, one of the greatest women’s gymnastics teams ever assembled, won the team gold medal at the 1989 world championships in Stuttgart.

… Soviet gymnasts showcased difficulty that was years ahead its time and they performed with style to spare. Their floor rotation was one for the ages—Olga Strazheva performed to Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring,” Olesya Dudnik to Gershwin’s “Second Rhapsody,” and Natalia Laschenova’s to Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”

The star of the team was Svetlana Boguinskaia, who won both the all-around and floor titles …

For Svetlana Boguinskaia, the best part of winning was the microwave.
