sadly … #MeToo has gone viral

Following a week of more devastating and disturbing news about film producer Harvey Weinstein, Hollywood actor Alyssa Milano took to social media to ask women to share their own personal experiences of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

In a message posted Sunday, she asked Twitter users to reply “me too” to her tweet if they had been sexually harassed or assaulted …

NEW Gym needed for St Vincent and the Grenadines

Dolphin Gymnastics and Health Academy is the first and only gymnastics program in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

LaPrise Harris-Williams is the Owner/Director of the program and her credentials include: Master of Sport, USA elite coach, USA national brevet gymnastics judge and former Head Acrobatics and Tumbling coach at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

The gymnastics program opened October 15, 2015 and has since competed in Texas, Florida, Trinidad and Barbados. Gymnastics has literally transformed the lives of many children on the island.

proposed new Gym

Interest from the community is overwhelming. To this end, Dolphin Gymnastics is desperate to keep these kids tumbling by purchasing used equipment to properly develop the sport.

We have set a goal to raise $12,500 to purchase regulation Spring Floor, Balance Beam and Spring Board. This will allow Dolphin Gymnastics the ability to provide access for more children to participate in the sport of gymnastics in St Vincent. Shipping costs are high.

The equipment we currently have is designed for younger children and does not provide enough safety for advanced skills.

We look forward to your response and should you wish to visit the gymnasium, we would be delighted to facilitate you.

Tommie Smith and John Carlos 1968

It’s been 49 years since Tommie Smith and John Carlos decided to take political action – the 1968 Olympics Black Power salute

After having won gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the 200-meter running event, they turned on the podium to face their flags, and to hear the American national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner“. Each athlete raised a black-gloved fist, and kept them raised until the anthem had finished. In addition, Smith, Carlos, and Australian silver medalist Peter Norman all wore human rights badges on their jackets.

In his autobiography, Silent Gesture, Smith stated that the gesture was not a “Black Power” salute, but a “human rights salute”. …

During the awards ceremony, Smith and Carlos protested against racial discrimination: they went barefoot on the podium and listened to their anthem bowing their heads and raising a fist with a black glove. In a perfect world we would keep politics and sport separate.

Now age 72, John Carlos was interviewed – 50 years before Colin Kaepernick knelt, John Carlos raised his fist

Despite being ostracized and ridiculed, Carlos says it was worth it to bring attention to the oppression of people of colour.

David BELYAVSKIY did not “choke”

David has been excellent this season. Looked great at Europeans. Looked to be a man on a mission in Montreal.

His fall on Horizontal Bar in the AA final — his last apparatus — was a fluke, in my opinion.

It’s an easy, consistent release move for him. He must have been shocked not to regrasp. He couldn’t believe it happened.

Listen to the GymCastic interview.

Some will say David choked at the last minute. That’s nonsense.

Hardy Fink spoke on the difficulty of regrasping a Bar that is oscillating wildly. No gymnast is 100% on regrasp even when they are in great position in the air.

I use David as an example for gymnasts who miss a routine for reasons having nothing to do with their mental preparation. It’s NOT all mental at the highest level.

Kohei, Bram – 1 arm regrasp

It’s not all that rare.

Davide Bardana once caught one handed from 1-arm Geinger into 1-arm Giant.

I believe he won H Bar at Elite Canada with that routine. Though I’d never seen it before, Dave had done it a number of times training over the pit.
