Anna Li and Jiani Wu suspended by SafeSport

Legacy Elite is a gymnastics club in Aurora. Head Coach Anna Li and her mother, Jiani Wu, have been suspended by the U.S. Center for SafeSport after a nearly six-year investigation.

SafeSport’s disciplinary database lists the misconduct as “physical and emotional.” …

Attorneys for the suspended co-owner and coach told the I-Team the allegations are, “categorically false,” and said they do plan to appeal. The attorneys also said their clients were, “under this type of cloud for years without an opportunity to fully resolve the matter. This is yet another case that clearly illustrates the Center is wholly incapable of reasonable investigations .”

R.I.P. Dr. Gerald S. George

The man who personally defined Gymnastics technique for me has died. Dr. Gerald S. George.

Rest in peace.

When his 1979 text book was published — Biomechanics of Women’s Gymnastics — I bought 10 copies and handed them out to our competitive staff.

He updated it 2010 in an edition called Championship Gymnastics.

BEST of all are the illustrations by James H. Stephenson.

Neither book was focused on biomechanics. Most groundbreaking was his taxonomy of how to define good technique. Any future computerized analysis should use these principles.

 Movement-Refining Principles

1. Amplitude Principle

A. External Amplitude
B. Internal Amplitude

2. Segmentation Principle
3. Closure Principle
4. Peaking Principle
5. Diversification Principle

College Gymnastics Association NCAA ’25

Preseason rankings.

A new code of points means we’ll see some different skills than we’re used to with a shift from 10 skills to 8 skills per routine. With that change, it’s possible that meets will be closer than in previous years.

In addition, the NCAA rules changed from 5 up 5 count to 4 up 4 count. The impact of this change is that depth matters a little bit less and with fewer opportunities for strong teams to pull away – we may witness some exciting upsets!

Since we went mute on Twitter, I’m looking elsewhere for good content.

TikTok, for example.

Here’s a week 1 NCAA wrap-up.
