My best guess is that of all nations in the world the gymnasts who suffered most were from the Soviet Union / Russia.

Most of what Khorkina says should be studiously ignored.

They fit tightly. That both weighted and stabilized.

what’s a “false grip” on Rings?

One reason Eleftherios Petrounias deservedly won the Rings gold medal in Rio is that he does not “cheat” his strength holds with false grip.

Opening the hand makes it even clearer to the judges that no false grip is used.
