2020 Code of Points – Bars

Gigi Farid posted her 2nd article of a series on the new Code.

There are far fewer changes to Bars than Beam.

Only 3 skills maximum will be counted from each of free hip swing, sole swing or Stalder.

Shaposh skills to kip will be deducted 0.5.

Jaeger piked inexplicably upgraded from  D to E. We won’t seeing many straddled Jaegers in Elite.

mental blocks in Gymnastics

Girls suffer mental blocks far more than do boys. Most are backward skills. Often they appear during competitive season or during other stressful times.

European Champion 2017?

With big names like Russia’s Aliya Mustafina taking time off to start a family and Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber recovering from a foot injury, the door is open for a new European champion to rise to the occasion.

Plenty of contenders are willing and more than capable of filling the void, like Russia’s Angelina Melnikova and Seda Tutkhalyan, The Netherlands’ Eythora Thorsdottir, Great Britain’s sisters Ellie & Becky Downie and teammate Amy Tinkler, France’s Marine Boyer, Belgium’s Nina Derwael, Italy’s Elisa Meneghini. Romania aims to have a good showing on home soil at the Europeans in Cluj, counting on veterans Catalina Ponor and Larisa Iordache to live up to these expectations. …
