IOC recognizes International Cheer Union

Six organizations were recognized as the official representatives of their sport for the International Olympic Committee:

– International Cheer Union (ICU)

– International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA)

– International Sambo Federation (FIAS)

– International Federation Icestocksport (IFI)

– World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO)

– World Lacrosse (WL)

The International Cheer Union was founded 2004.

Membership includes 116 national cheer federations on all continents – reaching over 5 million athletes globally.

Unlike some other major Cheer organizations, ICU is non-profit.

Simone’s G.O.A.T. emoji

Twitter is launching a new GOAT (aka “greatest of all time”) emoji specifically for the 24-year-old Olympian on Wednesday.

The tiny illustrated goat is wearing a red leotard with a gold medal around its neck.

Biles is the first Olympian to receive a custom emoji from Twitter.

It will populate automatically when Twitter users post messages with the hashtags “#SimoneBiles” or “#Simone” throughout the Olympic Games, which kick off Friday and continue through August 8.

Men’s Olympic Podium training

UPDATES from Tokyo:

Astonishingly, Dalaloyan says he will be the 4th man on floor and vault in qualifying. Will only compete if one of the three ahead has a problem. We’d assumed he’d not be doing either leg event because of his recent Achilles injury. (Read an interview from Tokyo.)

David Rumbutis (SWE) warmed up quad twist on FX.

A lot of men had trouble landing their HUGE vaults. The Spring Board was a concern for some. But Shek Wai-hung  (HNG) looks ready to medal.

The weak apparatus for host Japan is Rings. Not much difficulty.

As always, it’s a mistake to read too much into MAG podium training. Many gymnasts save their 100% efforts for the competition.
