Liz Kincaid on NCAA Gymnastics
Liz Kincaid, is the head coach and founder of one of Britain’s most succesful gymnastics clubs. Coach to Olympians, world medalists and British champions.
Liz tells Leap the Atlantic why she thinks NCAA gymnastics is an important goal for her gymnasts as well as something more coaches in GB should be investing …
Over 90% of Canadian girls, I estimate, are happy when they get to the NCAA. I recommend all foreign gymnasts consider this option on a student visa.
For the boys, however, I’m much less enthusiastic. There are far fewer teams for MAG and those teams have fewer scholarship opportunities. Tuition is very expensive in the USA. Male gymnasts from other nations are most often recommended to stay home.

elgrip NOT required next Men’s Code
DRAFT FIG Men’s Code of Points 2020 page 135 – Horizontal Bar:
Article 15.2.2 Information about the D score
1. The Element Groups are (EG):
I. Long hang swings with and without turns.
II. Flight elements.
III. In bar and Adler elements.
IV. Dismounts.
Adler is German for “eagle”. An eagle or elgrip swing has always been required in the past. But with the reduction in Special Requirements from 5 to 4, gymnasts will be required to do either an In Bar skill or Eagle skill. An Endo, for example, would suffice.
We will be seeing this skill far less in future.

The classic Stoop Shoot MIGHT damage the shoulders of gymnasts. I’m very happy to see it no longer a requirement. The very few genetically gifted may continue to use it.
Most have been done badly in the past. Flexed feet, bent knees, wide arms, etc.
Congratulations to FIG MTC for this change, something many have been calling for for decades. We’ll have fewer shoulder injuries in future.
Of course gymnasts will continue to use variations of that skill including Adler 1/2 and Adler 1/1, both much less for shoulder injury.

Jr Commonwealth Championship review
Lauren Hopkins posted the best write-up on the WAG Commonwealth Junior Championships.
Of the couple dozen Commonwealth nations with international gymnastics programs, only a handful showed up to the Junior Commonwealth Championships held in Namibia this week, but the field ended up showcasing some very exciting young talent.
The Welsh women weren’t at top strength here, but they really didn’t need to be, as they still won the team gold by a hefty margin in addition to winning eight individual medals. …
