Jade Carey the most powerful vaulter

She might have more amplitude than Simone on that Amanar.

In the final it will be obvious that Maria Paseka is not in the same league. Jade could legitimately compete against the guys.

Tomas Gonzalez added to Men’s Floor Final

Wow. I’m surprised. #MTL2017GYM problems.

Following an appeal by the Gymnastics Federation of Chile due to a problem with the structure of the competition floor that occurred during Men’s qualifications, the FIG Jury of Appeal has made the exceptional decision to allow Tomas Gonzalez (CHI) to participate in the Floor final.

During the second day of Men’s qualifications on Tuesday, October 3, a joining rail of the Floor’s structure moved out of place, causing instability on a small part of the floor.

Therefore, nine gymnasts instead of eight will participate in the Men’s Floor final on Saturday, October 7. Tomas Gonzalez will be the first to perform.

Ellie Black – Beam

Judges were tough on day 1. Ellie leads the apparatus (so far) with 13.433.

Let’s hope they stay consistent in evaluation day 2.

equipment failure at #MTL2017GYM

In the very last rotation of 24, Netherland’s Bart DEURLOO complained to officials that there was a broken spot on Floor.

They took his concern seriously.

After a long delay, Bart was allowed to repeat his exercise. Then everyone from the last Floor rotation was allowed to repeat.

Ireland’s Andrew SMITH scored 13.333 Exe. : 7.733 | Diff. : 5.700 | Pen. : -0.100 the first time.

His second routine was better, I thought. Second score 13.933 Exe. : 8.233 | Diff. : 5.700.

Netherland’s Bram VERHOFSTAD scored 13.866 Exe. : 8.266 | Diff. : 5.900 | Pen. : -0.300

Bram looked excited for the re-do. Good landings brought him 14.433 Exe. : 8.333 | Diff. : 6.100 and a spot in the FX Final. #controversy … This bumps Tomás González to 1st reserve.

Casimir SCHMIDT (NED) was 14.233  Exe. : 8.133 | Diff. : 6.100 | Pen. : ACCEPTED

Casimir, too, was psyched from Bram’s success. Nailing landings. His score went down to 13.533. Exe. : 7.633 | Diff. : 5.900. I didn’t see his first set.

Bart DEURLOO (NED) was 12.766 Exe. : 7.166 | Diff. : 5.600

Bart … who started all this … in the end opted NOT to compete after all due to an ankle injury. But he did get his teammate VERHOFSTAD into the FX Final.

Quite the meet for Bart. On the previous apparatus he qualified for the H Bar final. This after suffering a probably concussion during podium training.

I’ll be following up on this issue.

Bart Deurloo – probable concussion

After a bad fall on H Bar, Bart continued podium training finishing that apparatus then tumbling very well on Floor. But brain damage is possible.

Should medical have taken him off the field of play?

tie-breaking rule at Worlds

At the 2015 World Championships, the Uneven Bars final resulted in the coronation of four different World champions. This scenario is unlikely to repeat itself, as new rules allow ties to be broken at Worlds, just as they are at the Olympic Games.
If two or more gymnasts obtain the same total score in an event final, the one with the highest execution score will prevail. If there is still a tie, the higher difficulty score becomes the determining factor. In the All-around competition, the sum of the best three (for women) or five (for men) scores will establish the final ranking.

Men’s Floor is UGLY

Think back on the great floor gymnasts of all time. Kurt Thomas, Ioannis Melissanidis and Kyle Shewfelt are a few of my favourites.

Artistic gymnasts with excellent tumbling.
