Bar releases with 1/2 turns – CONTROVERSY

It’s easy to catch a release to Cross Grip without turning in the air.

It’s very difficult to complete the 180° twist prior to regrasp.

MOST will end up doing something in-between.

Rather than make judges decide, problem would be solved if the 1/2 turn skills were considered a different skill for difficulty — but be awarded the same value.

Georgia-Mae Fenton, for example, could compete Church and Church 1/2 turn and be credited 2 different skills with E value.

It’s an imperfect compromise, but the best I can come up with.

Yulo’s 2022 Floor

keeping form on 3/1 twist

Nearly impossible.

I compare every attempt vs Courtney McCool. She had the best twisting form I can recall.

Leanne and Courtney both trained at GAGE. In fact, I would say that’s the Gym with the best twisting form in the USA.

Paul Juda’s form on Vault

I typically take either 0.3 or 0.5 for straddling on the preflight of Round-off approach vaults.

For Juda there is NO DEDUCTION.

Round-off 1/4 twist into tumbling

If you do 1/4 twist while still in contact with the ground, should you get credit for the intended skill?

I know FIG MTC is looking at that technique.

Lauren Guerin – best FX 2022?

Anybody tumbling lower should be deducted.

Superb leap and jumps.

Entertaining and energetic choreography.

NCAA judges should be studying this routine to fine tune who’s actually deserving of a 10.0 on floor.
