why USAG needs independent oversight

UPDATED with input from Goldie.

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) is the National Olympic Committee for the United States. It’s based out of Colorado Springs.

USOC is the organization recognized by the the International Olympic Committee.

Similarly, USA Gymnastics ( USAG) answers to the USOC.

USOC could decertify USA Gymnastics and indeed they made that threat. As a result the entire board resigned on January 26, 2018

All those organizations are natural monopolies , not much subject to market forces.

You can quit USAG and go to the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs, but getting to the NCAA will be more difficult. Olympic qualification impossible.

American Cup TV ratings down

The Nassar scandal seems to be hurting the American fan base.

… (2018) American Cup gymnastics competition had a 0.67 rating and 982,000 viewers on NBC, down 11% in ratings and 6% in viewership from last year (0.75, 1.0M) and down 18% and 17% respectively from 2016 (0.8, 1.2M).

It was the lowest rated American Cup in at least a decade and the least-watched since at least 2009.

YouTube shuts down at midnight

April Fools. 🙄

YouTube is the single best thing that’s every happened for Gymnastics coaches in my opinion.

It’s easy to find information on nearly every coaching topic. You still need skill to distinguish between the good and the bad, of course.

Praise YouTube.
