Clearly FIG rules reward difficulty too much relative to execution. There’s too much incentive to chuck double fronts and Yurchenko triple twist despite a very low chance of landing safely. I’m embarrassed for FIG WTC. The E-score judges are ranking, not judging. Ranking in a very small range.

This is fantastic for Gymnastics in the host nation. Fantastic for the sport in South America.

How many years ago would you have been laughed at for predicting GBR and BRA would win all 3 medals on FX at Olympics? 🙂

That said, overall it was a disappointing final. Some of the best guys in the world competed below average routines. Kenzo was as sure a lock for the Gold on this apparatus as we had in Rio.

Former Romanian gymnast Daniela Druncea won a bronze medal at the Olympics on Saturday as a member of Romania’s rowing team …

Druncea, 25, was a member of Romania’s world championships team that won the bronze at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, and she also competed at the 2006 World Championships. She was an alternate to Romania’s 2008 Olympic team, which also won bronze in Beijing. …

Max finished with a world class score of 90.641 behind Japanese legend Kohei Uchimura who took the gold (92.365) and Ukraine’s Oleg Verniaiev the silver (92.266). …

Britain’s Nile Wilson was also competing in the all-around final and performed sensationally at just 20 years old. He was faultless throughout which included an outstanding parallel bars routine for a huge 15.700. Nile finished in 8th place amongst some incredible gymnasts and clearly has a bright future ahead of him. …

Canada’s Jagwear leos

Did you like the gunmetal Canadian leos?

MacLennan went to Rio with four different suits, custom fit and designed for her at this Jagwear Gymnastic Apparel factory – two of them for competition day. In a Rio Games alight with gymnasts wearing trendy bling-encrusted leotards, MacLennan is, by comparison, conservative with the sparkle. Her competition suits are bejewelled with just 1,400 rhinestones each – arranged tight in a maple leaf on the chest and cascading randomly over the rest of the suit, a little like shooting stars. …

Knowing most of their competition in their discipline would be heavily gemmed, Canada’s artistic gymnasts chose the shinier and more expensive Swarovski Crystals. Since they don’t retail, Jagwear won’t estimate a price for the Olympic suits, but say the crystals alone cost about $300 per suit. …
