everyone needs a mentor

Miss Val :

1. Someone who listens to me from my perspective, not theirs. Someone who asks questions pertinent to my circumstances. And someone who will offer suggestions based on my life, not theirs.

2. Someone who can respectfully and honestly tell me how I am perceived while understanding it may not be my intent.

3. Someone who I will be 100% honest with and with whom I trust to keep my discussions confidential.

4. Someone who I trust will not judge me or my actions.

5. Someone who sincerely wants me to succeed.

6. Someone who enthusiastically supports me to become the person I want to become.

wasting less chalk at Gymnastics

If you know Al Fong you know he hates chalk on the floor. If anyone spills chalk, training stops and it’s cleaned up immediately.

On the advice of Aaron Brokenshire he started having his kids use personal chalk in their own tupperware container.

Al Fong:

What happened really surprised me. My athletes started taking ownership of their chalk and competed with each other to see who could make their block last the longest.

Almost immediately I no longer had to sweep up excess chalk in the bar area. My beams became cleaner and my vault area was spotless. Amazing. My friends told me this was going to happen but I had my doubts. I’m a believer now.

And it’s been over 6 month since I had to purchase another case of chalk!

coach Sergey Sizhanov – Sam Oldham

1. Describe Sam in three words

Focused. Fighter. Friend

2. What are your early memories of Sam?

It was my very first training session in Britain in 2001, Sam was 8 and was practising a handstand on the rings. I told him my name, gave him some coaching tips and the rest is history.
