R.I.P. Art Shurlock

The legendary UCLA coach, born 1937, has gone to the Hall of Fame in the sky.

When I was a young coach, Art invited us CANADIANS to train at UCLA between Christmas and New Years. Inspiring.

I particularly remember holiday training 1983 โ€” just before the L.A. Olympics which were hosted at Pauley Pavilion in 1984.

Shurlock coached the U.S. in the 1984 Olympics as well as the World University Games Teams in 1987 and 1993. Shurlock was twice named NCAA Coach of the Year in 1984 and 1987.

Rest In peace.

Art competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games finishing 10th on Pommels.
