A single source βΒ Saransk and Mordovan Times βΒ reports that famed Soviet Head Coach Leonid Arkayev has been fired from the gymnastics center in Saransk that was named after him.

One of my favorite older gymnasts is Sylvie Wentzell of Germany. Sheβs 41, the exact same age as Oksana, coaches at the Dortmund club in Germany, and keeps competing for her club becauseβ¦why not? She can, and so she does. She has no desire to be at the national level or anything, but she does all of the Bundesliga meets with her team because she has fun competing alongside the kids she trains. …

In previous years, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Martin did not want to be captain. He didnβt need an additional differentiation. As a tall, black man, Martin is already unique on the Ohio State team [the teamβs average height is 5-7; 5-10 is tall for a gymnast], and since his sophomore year, heβs been out as gay on the team.
Martin is believed to be the only publicly out college gymnast currently competing β¦
Martin was part of Ohio State head coach Rustam Sharipovβs first recruiting class, and Martin credits Sharipov with embracing diversity.
