If you ever met John Smith of NASA Gymnastics in Washington State, you remember him. You admired him. One of the classiest gentlemen in Gymnastics.
A real role model to us all in the sport.
He will be dearly missed.
John died of complications resulting from early, rapid onset dementia.
Rest in peace.
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Rosie MacLennan of King City, ON stood on top of the podium on Saturday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Russia after claiming gold in women’s individual trampoline at the 2018 FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships for only the second time in her career.
The battle for gold was clearly between Xueying Zhu of China and MacLennan who entered the final ranked one and two respectively. Zhu actually outscored MacLennan in the final, but was given a 0.2 penalty for taking too long to begin her routine leaving MacLennan with the higher score overall. Zhu ended up with the silver medal while Yana Pavlova of Russia captured the bronze medal.

The Chinese team won gold over Portugal and Canada … in the first All-around Team Final at the 2018 Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Saint Petersburg (RUS).
The new All-around Team format unites all four events for men and women — Individual Trampoline, Synchronised Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline — with all five teams in the final competing eight routines total. The team totals were calculated based on a point system for the ranking of each event, with the top score on each event earning 5 points and the fifth-best score earning one point.

China finally sent Double Mini competitors to Worlds simply to be able to compete (and win) this new prize.
Actually, USA, Portugal and Canada all had 24 points. By virtue of the tie-break process that calculates a team’s scores by adding the actual scores, not placement, the USA landed in fourth behind Portugal and Canada …
(Rosie) MacLennan praised the new team event and the camaraderie it brought to the gymnasts competing together.
You’ve won Olympic Gold.
Twice.
When asked for advice, I always use the words of a pro climber, “chase the dream, love the journey.”
