Gymnastics “saves”

I skipped the Gymnastics FAILS meme not wanting to encourage people considering falls as entertainment.

But I do love gymnasts who can SAVE a skill or routine. That takes psychological toughness.

There is some great coaching SPOTTING in this blog, as well.

advice for Gymnastics coaches

… as a coach, I strive to have a lighthearted training environment that is serious when needed.

Time for bars? The athlete should think hard about their turn right before they go, as they execute skills, and concentrate to the best of their abilities. Between turns, it’s okay to have a laugh at the chalk bucket, especially if their next turn isn’t coming for a little while.

I also continually stress to my kids quality over quantity — the deal is, we do fewer routines and less conditioning if what they do is executed well. If not, we continue to stay on those skills or continue conditioning until it is done properly.

Not only does this kind of mindset build respect in the athlete-coach relationship, but it also gives the kids some empowerment …

Under Armour for LGBT Pride

Josh Dixon flying the colours.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The Stonewall riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.

For the second year in a row President Donald J. Trump has chosen to let gay ‘Pride Month’ slide by with no official recognition.

advice for graduating gymnasts …

… and coaches.

Tony Retrosi:

Learn the art of listening.

Be tolerant.

Be kind to yourself and kill the naysayers with kindness.

Never stop learning.

Your words have meaning, choose them wisely.

Ask for help. People will show up, as will the universe. Pretending doesn’t make you smarter.

It’s okay to change your mind. Walk a road that you hadn’t envisioned, and then, when you are ready, make a sharp left, and take that road.

Surround yourself with positive people and let the others gently fall away.

Chris Waller – Locker Room Speech

After a somewhat disappointing start, I felt UCLA would not be able to challenge for the team title.

Coach Waller was not happy. He chewed out the team.

The rest is history. The Bruins’ big comeback was keyed in rotation five by a season-high 49.6375 performance on Bars. Kyla going 9.9875. Peng a perfect 10.

Grace Glenn led off Beam with 9.9375. The team finished with fantastic routines from Katelyn, Kyla and Peng to barely edge past Oklahoma.
