MyKayla Skinner – Vault

I can’t recall a better MyKayla DTY. Leave a link in the comments if you know of one.

She tied with Brenna and Alex for National Champion.

One vault that might have been better was Sydney Snead. But I can’t find the video online.

2. Illinois – 408.824
3. Penn State – 404.790

4. Ohio State – 403.959
5. Iowa – 400.451
6. U.C. Berkeley – 395.991

Unlike the women, Men’s AA is decided on day 2 during Super 6.

Oklahoma, Florida, Utah to Super 6

1. OU 198.050
2. Florida 197.5875
3. Utah 197.1375

4. Cal 196.500
5. Washington 196.250
6. Kentucky 196.0625

Great meet. Overall I found it stronger than the first flight.

Oklahoma looks invincible to me. So consistent.

Florida had a fantastic meet. Utah will want to improve for tomorrow.

Cal, Washington and Kentucky all had plenty to be proud of. Congratulations all.

Maggie Nichols is your National Champion

1. Maggie Nichols, OU, 39.8125
2. MyKayla Skinner, Utah, 39.7250
3. Elizabeth Price, Stanford, 39.6750

The AA competition was even more thrilling than the team qualification. These are 3 of the best College gymnasts all time.

GREAT season, Maggie. Congratulations.

Utah has the craziest fans

Look up in St. Louis to confirm.

Miss Val breaks down UCLA day 1

Always worth a listen. Coach credits Nia Dennis for starting Vault for the the team with such enthusiasm. It reminds me a bit of Anna Li starting UCLA on Beam, back in the day.

Sabrina Vega – Beam

This was the most talked about routine from session 1 at Nationals.

Sabrina was the clutch hero at Regionals to unexpectedly get Georgia to Nationals. Could she do it again to keep them in the running for Super 6.

YES.

Georgia just wouldn’t quit. Jordyn Pederson had an ankle injury on Floor. So Gymdogs only put up 5 gymnasts on Bars. They hit. #NeverQuit

Finishing 4th in session 1 was an excellent ranking for Georgia after the challenging season they’ve endured. A contender again soon.

Ebee joins Utah for NCAA preliminaries

Rotating as an individual in the AA, Stanford’s Elizabeth Price will compete last after Utah on each apparatus. She’s joined up with the Utes for the weekend.

The team welcomed her with this card.

Ebee’s mom and Aunt Cordelia both think that’s a good rotation. She’ll likely compete after MyKayla Skinner on each event.

Stanford, Minnesota, Nebraska through to Super 6

1. Stanford – 407.390
2. Minnesota – 404.758
3. Nebraska – 402.690

4. Michigan – 400.590
5. Navy – 390.921
6. Air Force Academy – 385.688

Both Nebraska Men and Women finished 3rd in the first session to move on to the team Final on Saturday.

UCLA, LSU, Nebraska through to Super 6

UCLA 197.5625
LSU, 197.475
Nebraska 197.0125

Georgia 196.675
Alabama 196.625
Arkansas 196.425

I felt UCLA and LSU were clearly the best two teams in session 1 of the two qualification rounds. Both could do better in the team final.

It was a dog fight for that 3rd spot.

Spencer of the Balance Beam Situation had called Nebraska most likely to upset a seeded team. The Huskers started strong on Beam and deserved the final qualifying berth.   Congratulations. Their fans are ecstatic.

Leading at the half way point:

AA, Kyla Ross, UCLA 39.6375

VT: Sydney Snead, UGA & Taylor Houchin, NU 9.9
UB: Kyla Ross, UCLA 9.95
BB. Peng-Peng Lee, UCLA 9.9874
FX: Katelyn Ohashi, UCLA 9.9625

Judging was weirder than usual. Still, rankings for team ended up correct. You could argue some of the apparatus leaders. I’d have given Kyla 10.0 on Bars. Snead 10.0 on Vault.

I’d have Hambrick ahead of Ohashi on Floor, I think.
