UCIC Men’s Apparatus Finals
The University of Calgary International Cup Finals were quite good this year. Many of the guys hit better than in qualifying.

Anderson Loran – H Bar
The final routine late night at the University of Calgary International preliminary competition was veteran Anderson Loran. He got the (tired) crowd pumped up with this hit.
Scott Morgan was the most excited fan in the Gym. He’s running the Gymnastics Canada snapchat LIVE coverage.
Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube. Anderson finished 3rd.
Darren Wong 9.45 E-score Floor
The 2020 Men’s Code of Points on Floor is resulting in routines just as ugly as the 2016 Code. Gymnasts rushing through only attempting to maximize D-score.
One guy with control and style is Canadian Junior Darren Wong from Phoenix, Vancouver. Coached by Sasha Pozdniakov who loves good basics.

Gymnastics Camps in Alberta, Canada
Canada has far fewer summer Camps than the USA. Our biggest is GymRep in Montreal. With heightened border security in the USA 2017, consider friendly Canada as an alternative.
My home Province now has 3 very good residential options.
1. CALGARY – Mountain Shadows 20th Annual Residential Artistic Gymnastic Camps (Brochure)
July 17th – 22nd WAG
July 24th – 28th WAG
2. CANMORE Illusions 2nd Annual Residential Adventure Camp (Brochure)
Aug 13-19 WAG
Aug 20 ( coaches heli-hiking)
3. EDMONTON – First annual Pine Valley Residential Summer Gymnastics Camp (Brochure)
July 2-8 MAG & WAG
July 9-15 MAG & WAG
July 15-22 MAG & WAG
July 23-29 MAG & WAG
I’ve coached at the first two Camps and can personally recommend both. And I’m planning to travel to Pine Valley to get involved with the launch. The Kriangkum family has been putting this together for years. When comparing costs consider accommodation, food and activities. All three Camps are excellent value.

Steve Butcher on the Sex Abuse scandal
Through his work in the gymnastics community, Butcher said he’s known Dr. Larry Nasser for about 25 years. Nasser, who treated some of the most famous Olympic gymnasts in recent history, is facing 23 sexual abuse charges, and has been accused by more than 80 girls and women that he sexually abused them during treatments. …
“I know them personally. I know them, I know their coaches, I’ve known their families, their husbands and kids now,” he told WBIR 10News. “It’s not just shocking, it’s devastating. I feel like it’s a weight on my heart when they tell me what they’ve endured.” …
“Everybody is putting more safety precautions up. The gyms here in Knoxville are really cautious, background checking their staff and doing everything they can to protect their young athletes.”
Butcher said it’s important, too, for parents to look out for their kids and make sure they are working with coaches who no only make them a better athlete, but a better person. …
“My personal effort is going to be in the future to do anything we can worldwide, not just in the U.S., to develop programs where athletes feel more reassured if they come forward about a abuse case, but to advise the parents and athletes to prevent them. That’s my mission,” …
‘Shocking, heartbreaking’: Olympic gymnastics judge says sexual abuse scandal can lead to change
I’m certain there is more abuse in totalitarian States than in Democracies. 😦
