Nikolai Kuksenkov has retired

Hello, dear friends!

…From January of 2020, I won’t be on the national team because I will officially start working as a coach.

… I want to thank everyone and to sum up my career… I gave 25 years of my life to gymnastics, went to 2 Olympics, 8 World Championships and 8 European Championships (not counting two junior ones). …

… Thanks to my national team colleagues, coaches, specialists, staff, fans, and everyone who helped me at different stages of my life. I remember all of you, I haven’t forgotten anyone.

Your Kolyan.

2020 PanAm Championships to Utah

The United States is playing host to the Senior Pan American Championships for men’s and women’s gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline that serves as the final qualifying event for the 2020 Olympic Games for North, Central and South America, which is a first both as a combined event staged in the USA and as an Olympic qualifier.

Utah Valley has been chosen as the site for Senior Pan Am Championships, May 7-10.

This is the first time the Senior Pan American Championships is part of the Olympic qualification process.

Across all four disciplines, more than 300 gymnasts from an estimated 25 countries are expected to participate and to seek Olympic berths in men’s and women’s gymnastics, two each; rhythmic gymnastics, one individual and one group; and men’s and women’s trampoline, one each if the Americas have not already qualified a country.

The USA will know which disciplines it has the opportunity to try for another Olympic spot by mid-April. …

Russia will appeal the Olympic ban

Russia has been kicked out of international events for four years, with no official team, officials, flag or anthem allowed at Olympics, Paralympics and World Championships. It is a ban on a Russian identity at these events. Nor can they host.

Russia, meanwhile, is set to appeal via the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), and has portrayed the sanction as excessive, unfair and politically motivated.

Putin loves sport. There’s overwhelming evidence of top-down government sponsored doping in Russia, though not in the Gymnastics sports.

Russia was afforded every opportunity to get its house in order and re-join the global anti-doping community for the good of its athletes and of the integrity of sport, but it chose instead to continue in its stance of deception and denial.

The WADA Executive Committee unanimously endorsed the ban. I think it should and will stick.

Canada has a National Training Centre

Gymnastics Canada and the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) are pleased to announce a partnership confirming the establishment of a national training centre at the INS Québec Complex for artistic gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics.

The INS Québec also becomes the primary site for Olympic preparation for Tokyo (2020) and Paris (2024) Olympic Games for artistic gymnastics.

“We are so excited to have the INS Québec as our national training centre,” said two-time Olympian Ellie Black from the women’s artistic gymnastics national team. …

The facility has so much to offer other than a great gymnastics area. They have a workout gym downstairs and many recovery tools such as the hot/cold tubs that will be so beneficial at keeping our bodies healthy. All of this will help keep our team motivated, excited, and supported on our journey to Tokyo 2020 and beyond.”
