LSU addresses racial inequality

Volunteer Coach Ashleigh Clare-Kearney Thigpen is one of those interviewed by the LSU athletic department following the murder of George Floyd.

“Over half of Black full-time employees [53%] reported witnessing racial or ethnic discrimination in their workplace and 27% reported experiencing it, compared to only 12% and 4% of white full-time employees.”

gender neutral titles

Though not in my top 1000 issues 😀, it’s a good idea to progressively move away from gender specific terms.

Penn State and other American Universities, for example:

Don’t get upset — however — when new terms are mocked while we get used to them.

Canadian High Schools and Universities, by comparison, don’t use “sophomore“.

Stanford will not cut sports

Great news.

Stanford University has reversed the decision to cut 11 of its varsity sports programs. In an announcement on Tuesday, the school said the school backtracked in part because of “an improved financial picture with increased fundraising potential.”

At the time of the original decision in July of 2020, the university received heavy backlash after it announced the following sports would be discontinued:

  • Men’s and women’s fencing
  • Field hockey
  • Lightweight rowing
  • Men’s rowing
  • Co-ed and women’s sailing
  • Squash
  • Synchronized swimming
  • Men’s volleyball
  • Wrestling

Also factoring into the decision are federal lawsuits from the athletes affected, as well as on-field protests.

Arizona State wins Collegiate GymACT

Arizona State rolled to their 14th straight team championship at the 2021 USA Gymnastics Collegiate GymACT Championships Saturday at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

ASU (314.350) finished a full 13 points ahead of runner up Washington (301.050). The University of Illinois-Chicago (284.600), SC United (281.350) and Temple (280.550) rounded out the top five. …
