World Champs Dalaloyan, Xiao Rutoeng, Petrounias

Floor
1. Artur Dalaloyan (RUS) 14.9
2. Kenzo Shirai (JPN) 14.866
3. Carlos Yulo (PHI) 14.6

You could argue that Yul Moldauer (USA) 14.566 should have been Bronze.

Yulo is the biggest happy surprise of Worlds 2018. Congratulations Philippines. πŸ™‚

Pommels

2. Max Whitlock (GBR) 15.166 ***
3. lee Chih Kai (TPE) 14.966

Petrounias was doubtful to compete Worlds. He has shoulder surgery scheduled in 3 days.

Zanetti was fantastic. You might argue he was even better thanΒ Petrounias. There’s not much to separate the very best Ring men.

… or you could catch-up on by listening to GymCastic MAG day 2 – THE POMMEL-POCALYPSE

Median scores for all apparatus went up from Worlds 2017 to Worlds 2018. That’s expected over the quadrennial. … BUT median score on Pommels dropped 1.167. That’s no statistical fluke. There’s something wrong with that horse.

Still the man to beat in Doha, I’d say. If he hits 6/6 he’ll be tough to beat.

Rhys McClenaghan – Pommels

By the time we got to the Pommel final many (most?) were already calling the kid from Ireland favourite over the Olympic Champion. Max had been having problems. Rhys looking insanely confident.

Rhys won Europeans easily. Now the talk is of who could beat him at Worlds. Rhys was 14th last year.

This is the young man forced to leave his club just weeks ago. What kind of marketing would Rathgael Gymnastics Club in Bangor have now if they had supported him and his coach?
