1 WELL-BEING/HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Provide a formal apology and acknowledgement of harm to those affected by physical, emotional, psychological and other abuse afflicted by or through inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour of others members of the gymnastic community over the past 4 decades; particularly noting the harm suffered by young gymnasts.
  • Create and implement a restorative process for all abuse survivors.
  • Seek a continuation of the counselling services presently available to all gymnastic community abuse survivors through Sport NZ.
  • Incorporate cultural diversity and understanding in the panel and guidelines.
  • Request clubs to allow parents to observe training where there is an appropriate viewing area.
  • Have increased regard for the mental health of all involved in the gymnastics community – especially competitive gymnasts. This involves shifting the cultural mindset from unrealistic perfection to “seeking excellence’’.
  • Consider further review of competition and training attire to address the safety, physical and psychological and holistic wellbeing of gymnasts.

2 GYMNAST

  • Create a confidential pathway between current elite athletes and former athletes, to ensure issues and concerns can be shared and then advanced without fear.

3 COACHES

  • Promote and support the establishment of a national coaches’ association to provide support, advice and professional development.
  • Look to collaborate with other sports and guidance from Sport NZ as to ways and means of delivering education courses on child development, human behaviour and an understanding of the human stress response for all coaches.
  • Create a national register of coaches with the content to include coaching qualifications, current coaching level and name of the club. Monitor coach certification annually at all levels.

  • Increase transparency of scoring, particularly at national championships and competitions that impact selection.

FIG AA World Cup Series cancelled

The series was made up of four events – in Milwaukee (USA), Stuttgart (GER), Birmingham (GBR) and Tokyo (JPN) – originally intended to take place between March and April 2020. …

The World Cup in Tokyo on 4 May, which serves as a test event for the Games in Artistic Gymnastics, remains unaffected for the moment. …

According to the rules, the unused places go to the highest-ranked countries in the team ranking results of the qualifications at the 2019 World Championships.
The following countries, therefore, obtain an additional non-nominative berth for Tokyo 2020:

  • Men’s Artistic Gymnastics: Russia, China and Japan.
  • Women’s Artistic Gymnastics: USA, China and Russia.

To date, 82 places out of 98 in Men’s Artistic and 84 out of 98 in Women’s Artistic have already been allocated.

The remaining places at stake will be allocated through the Apparatus World Cup Series (the final stage of which is scheduled for 10–13 March in Doha, (QAT)) and the continental championships.

A year ago, Paul Juda found himself a surprise member of the U.S. men’s gymnastics senior national team. …

Juda feels as though he has made the most of the time he’s had with Olympic postponement.

“Another year, being so young is honestly super helpful,” said Juda. “I think where I am right now, I’m in much better position than I was last year to make to potentially make the Olympic team.”

In pretty much every respect, Iowa’s performance on Saturday was a big deal.

The 196.800 total score ranks tied for 4th on Iowa’s all-time score list (the team record is 197.150), and Iowa notched a victory over the supposedly better Minnesota team as it continues a surprising assault on conference supremacy.

The original posted meet score of 196.825 would have tied Iowa with Michigan for first in the Big Ten this week.

BBS – WEEK 5 RANKINGS

Arizona State’s gigantic 197.150 in falling to Utah on Saturday isn’t breaking team records the way Iowa’s results have been because, a couple decades ago, ASU was a 198y team.

But this performance should be treated with similar significance. The vault and bars rotations on Friday were the best I’ve seen an Arizona State team look on those events.
