Jr Worlds preview – Antalya (TUR)

Despite the earthquake hundreds of miles away, FIG kept the 2nd annual Junior WAG & MAG World Championships in Antalya, TΓΌrkiye as scheduled.

29 March-2 April, 2023

Olympic Champion Kyle Shewfelt recently called again for minimum age for Senior women to be raised to 18 β€” same as for MAG.

If that were to happen, Jr Worlds would be of even greater importance. And safeguards would need to be put in place to reduce instances of over-training of young children.

The first FIG Junior World Championships, held in GyΓΆr (HUN) in 2019, heralded future champions, including Tokyo 2020 Olympic Balance Beam champion Guan Chenchen (CHN), two-time World Uneven Bars champion Wei Xiaoyuan (CHN), 2022 World team champion Skye Blakely (USA), Olympic medallists Jennifer Gadirova (GBR) and Kitazono Takeru (JPN), and World medallists Kayla Di Cello (USA), Doi Ryosuke (JPN), and Illia Kovtun (UKR).
