day in the life of Olympian Courtney McGregor
Christchurch gymnast Courtney McGregor will join the New Zealand Olympic team for Rio, alongside fellow gymnast Misha Koudinov and trampolinist Dylan Schmidt.
They are New Zealand’s first Olympic gymnasts since Sydney 2000 and the largest contingent since three gymnasts went to the Tokyo Games in 1964. …
She’ll be competing for Boise after Rio.

Justine Kelly on FloGymnastics put together a series of posts on changes in the 2017-2020 Code of Points:

Beam should have more variety next cycle as many skills have been raised in difficulty.
Don’t count on all those changes surviving, however. A new President is coming in. I’ll be surprised if this is the final draft.
Kristian Thomas on Zika
Olympic bronze medallist gymnast Kristian Thomas told BBC Sport: “We were over there in February for a training camp and we followed all the advice from the doctors, the BOA (British Olympic Association) and British Gymnastics and we were all fine.
“I think we’ve just got to make sure we’re on top of this and following the guidelines, make sure we’re protecting ourselves and each other …”
I was in Rio for 17 days in April and saw only 3 mosquitos. There will be fewer during the Olympics.
The risk of Zika infection is far lower than the risk of getting into a motor vehicle accident on the way to the Olympic venue.
Guatemala Age Group camp
This camp, hosted in Guatemala City, was unique in that it was the first one that combined an Olympic Solidarity technical course with the full content and focus of the FIG Age Group Programme for Artistic Gymnastics. Indeed, the entire development and world-wide dissemination of the age group programmes has been subsidised annually by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). …

Myself and José Súcart were the experts for this one. We both agreed it was as good as any of the 5 day camps we’ve led.
The quality and variety of demonstrators at the Camp was a highlight. Some gymnasts are resident at the Gym, doing their schooling upstairs between training sessions.
Jorge Vega Lopez, Floor gold medalist at the 2015 Pan American Games, participated as a demonstrator. He was one of the first gymnasts to join the residential school.
Considering they have only 8-9 clubs in the entire nation, Guatemala is doing great things. Beam is particularly strong.

The legend is not quite as good as he once was. But still good enough for the silver medal at Europeans. 🙂
