straight front leg on Round-off Hurdle

Personally, I’ve had a lot of success over the decades introducing the aerial phase of the Round-off hurdle with the front leg quite straight.

NEXT I work on a deep lunge before the Round-off.

And finally combine the two segments.

I know Chinese coaches and many others who prefer a bent front leg in the hurdle — and it works for them. My fear is that lifting the knee is backward rotation, and it may limit my ultimate forward rotation.

Here Tammy Biggs emphasizes the straight leg.

Flipping LONG JUMP

I’m old enough that I competed the Western Roll on High Jump in Jr. High School.  (Dive roll was already banned.)

Technique changed to the Fosbury Flop before I finished High School.

The evolution of technique.

In the Long Jump, Kiwi Tuariki Delamere competed a new technique at the Pacific 8 Track and Field Championships 1974. Front flip.

He was no gymnast.  😀

That jump was not far off the sea level World Record at the time.

Flipping was quickly banned.

Others had tried that flip.  I heard future Olympic gymnast, Sid Freudenstein, tried it High School competition for Triple Jump in 1968.

training Arabian Double Layout

FIRST — don’t train this skill until your 1/1 twisting Double Layout is consistent.  Otherwise there is a risk you’ll make the twist too early

But if that’s not a problem, I love this skill.  Especially when straight or slightly arched.   It’s very difficult to land, of course.

Many gymnasts can do it from Tumbling Trampoline.  Very few from competition Floor.
