CRAZY idea – teach Pak before Flyaway

Has anyone ever done this?

Most WAG coaches probably don’t have this option due to competition requirements on Bars …

… but I’d love to try a generation who trained Pak first, simultaneously with forward Flyaway.

I’d delay teaching backwards Flyaway as long as possible.

related – Jeff Pauliuk once started teaching a group of pre-comp girls Blind Change before Giant backward. They could see where they were going.

It was working well, I thought, but Jeff left the group after one year.

Handstands are THE THING on bars.

When gymnasts cast to handstand in NCAA, we’re told the judges are expecting them to be within 10 degrees of vertical to receive no deduction. This “degree” stuff is super ambiguous (the human eye cannot tell the difference between 9 degrees and 11 degrees on a handstand), so the rule basically ends up as “y’all better be vertical.” …

Alyona Shchennikova, who finished ninth at this years’ U.S. world trial, competed at the Voronin Cup in Moscow December 11-13. She took the all around title with a 53.825 and added gold on bars and silver on beam.

Shchennikova was expected to sign with Michigan last month but has not yet. When reached by email for comment, she stated that, “Michigan is still my collegiate plan.” However, she said she has not yet decided whether she will defer. …
