CAN Nationals MAG – day 2 results UPDATE

There was a fair bit of confusion at Awards for the Sr. Men. Confusion at the scoring table. Confusion for the athletes. Many were uncertain whether the two Sr. Age groups would have separated apparatus medals — or combined for the two groups. This post has been edited.

Unfortunately the Canadian Men’s team to continental championships flew to Medallin, Columbia just before the second session of Nationals.

Highest priority is for the Men to qualify there to Worlds 2023 in Belgium.

With most of the A-team gone, Kenji Tamane is named Canadian Champion Senior age-21+ 2023 based on combined scores. He was on the 2022 Worlds team.

Dorian DoanGYMONON2157.2153.9163

Of the older Senior group, Kenji had the highest Floor score. Ioannis Chronopoulos ranked 1st on Pommels and H Bar. No surprise, Chris Kaji top Rings. Quinlan Perron highest Vault. Evgeny Siminiuc highest P Bars.

It’s great to have Tokyo Olympian René Cournoyer back competing some apparatus after injury — though he’s still not doing dismounts.

An interesting and competitive competition with Felix, William, and the PAGU team out of contention.

Canada awards Seniors under age-21 separately based on combined scores. Smart. Guys who should be preparing for future quadrennials.

Kai Iwaasa had the best Floor of the young seniors, an amazing routine. Jayson Rampersad highest Pommels, as usual. Evan Fedder, son of Canadian great Danny Fedder top Rings score. Trentin Milligan highest Vault. Noah Royer showed some of the best P Bar swing in the competition. World class. Patrick Talbot great H Bar.

Another fun competition with many in medal contention.

After the competition, I told Patrick’s coach Nick Blanton that if I had a son — I’d send him to train at Nick’s Fundy Gymnastics Club, Saint John, New Brunswick. Population 70,000. Everyone at Nationals would agree that Nick’s gymnasts were best prepared to hit routines with quality.

CAN Nationals WAG – day 2 RESULTS

Aurélie Tran

Ellie Black competed / trained only Bars, working on getting her difficult routine more consistent. She did get through the set but hit her feet on the floor on one regrasp.

For the Canadian team competing continental championships, Medellín, Colombia — Nationals was a tune-up.

Shallon Olsen, just finished her College career, competed only Vault.

Emma Spence and Ana Padurariu, both still in NCAA, were on site but didn’t compete.

Christian Gallardo and Kyna Fletcher are in charge of the team through to Paris. Feedback I heard from coaches was all good regarding Christian’s technical advice.
