Automatic qualification to Paris for the top 3.

A disappointing Final. Too many falls. It looks bad. Makes Pommels look like a joke apparatus.

Only China improved (a lot) from the qualification round.

Shout out for Italy and Spain, however. Good job.

Men’s Gymnastics is going the wrong direction

My main takeaway from the TEAM competition is that rules reward DIFFICULTY too much.  Quality not enough.

Putin is bombing Ukraine’s power grid, causing grief and suffering for civilians.

IOC should announce what date Russia will be banned from the Paris Olympics, unless Putin’s war is ended.

Shout out for Hungary, finishing 12th.  They definitely threatened to be the miracle team of 2022.  LOTS of potential.  Look out in 2023. 

Jim Redmond R.I.P.

A great moment in sport parenting.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Derek Redmond tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final. Waving off medical assistance, Derek felt obliged to finish the race hopping on 1-foot and, with assistance from his father, managed to complete a full lap of the track as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. 

Father Jim Redmond was one of the Olympic torch bearers in London for the Summer Games. Redmond Senior died in October 2022, aged 81.

Suni ~ Sportswoman of the Year

… Sunisa Lee was named the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Individual Sportswoman of the Year at its Annual Salute to Women in Sports event on October 12 in New York.

Viktoria won the AA at Spartakiad 2022.

Scores were inflated as they often are in domestic Russian meets.

We have to hope Putin ends his invasion of Ukraine soon so Viktoria will have a chance to qualify for Paris.
