Russian athletes ~ Paris Olympics
Personally, I can’t see any way to fairly allow some athletes who represent Russia to compete in Paris 2024, while disallowing others.
For example, Nikita Nagornyy could SAY he does not support Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Compete Paris. Then return to Russia to continue his work for Putin, laughing at IOC president Thomas Bach.
That would be worst case scenario. The IOC would be humiliated.
The IOC should give Putin a deadline to withdraw from Ukraine, or have his nation and Belarus officially banned.

Miracle on Beam ~ Japan 2022
In the last quadrennial, I’d say the biggest shocker was Taiwan qualifying a full team to the Tokyo Olympics in Men’s Gymnastics.
In Liverpool, without question the biggest surprise was a team from Japan of relative unknowns.
In the qualifications, Japan had the highest team Beam score: 3rd (Shoko Miyata), 5th (Hazuki Watanabe), and 7th (Ayaka Sakaguchi).
And they didn’t compete the reigning World Champion on Beam, Urara Ashikawa.
In the team final, heading to the final apparatus, it looked like Japan would finish 3rd — automatic qualification to Paris.
The wheels finally fell off on Bars. Canada took the bronze team medal. Winning it on Beam.
Canada’s first team medal at Worlds was the 2nd biggest surprise in Liverpool.

Gymnastics Worlds too Restrictive?
Working with the FIG dues paying Bermuda Federation, I can tell you it’s getting near impossible for any gymnast training there to compete at Sr. Worlds.
The career would have to go perfectly through the PAGU qualifying system.
Hardy Fink has attended more Worlds and Olympics than anyone. He feels that the restricted-access World Championship in this quadrennial and the next are a mistake. In an effort to make Worlds shorter, we’ve reduced the opportunities for elite gymnasts from developing nations. And for specialists worldwide.
In the case of Bermuda, for example, should the Federation continue with FIG? I’d still say YES for Commonwealth Games and PanAm Games, but there is an argument for withdrawing from FIG competition completely.

One more season at Auburn. Then Suni will focus exclusively on qualifying for Paris.
