Cuban Gymnastics in 2017

David Eaton, TURN Managing Director and Founder, posted a retrospective on Cuban men’s Gymnastics: Lopez, Roche, Cuervo, Richards, Suarez, Tamayo.

Eaton visited the Nacional Escuela de Alto Rendimiento (National School of High Performance) in the suburbs of Havana, Cuba – a trip which was interrupted by the death of former leader, Fidel Castro. Click through to read his very interesting essay.

The Cuban Mystique

Many Cuban gymnasts defected over the years, most recently in Toronto 2015.

Four athletes are coming to Worlds 2017 Montreal. Hopefully they are all happy enough at home to return after the meet.

new Bar grips available

We’ve been testing prototypes of these grips out of Canada for a long time. They are finally available for everyone.

Designed by former gymnast Ariel Crawford, the beginner grip has been customized for the first time grip user with small hands.

The advanced grips have firmer leather strong enough for highest difficulty routines.

Both buckle and Velcro are used to hit the sweet spot for security with adjustability.

A built in elastic loop ensures the Velcro strap cannot come undone on the Bars.

Definitely a contender for the senior team starting next year. Form needs to improve. In the end — even with Marta gone — it will be consistency that gets you on the American teams. Texas Dreams counted no falls, I believe, with 6 gymnasts at Classics.

President Răducan

I believe most are pleased to see Stoica retire.

Everyone wishes Andreea Răducan the best.

World and Olympic champion Andreea Răducan is expected to be elected the new president of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation (FRG) on Friday, following the withdrawal of incumbent Adrian Stoica, the only other candidate, on Thursday.

Răducan, 33, told IG she was not caught by surprise by the news of Stoica’s withdrawal, which had come as a shock to the general public. …

She has worked as a reporter and television commentator, and has been a tireless promoter of women’s gymnastics in Romania through various programs and events. Since 2006, she has been working with the Romanian Olympic Foundation, which promotes fitness and sport and also provides aid to former champions needing assistance. …

In addition to her new position as head of the FRG, Răducan is also preparing for another role: mamă. She is expecting her first child, a daughter, in October, with husband Daniel Tandreu, whom she married last year.
