David finished 46th at his first Russian Championships. He was no overnight success.

At 2017 Worlds he won medals on Pommels and P Bars.

Coming from a small town, he moved at age-15 to the city of Yekaterinburg for training.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist left his club when his coach Luke Carson was given three weeks’ notice. Rhys has a World Cup competition coming up.

Rhys’ club claims the decision was financial.
