2020 Code of Points – Bars

Gigi Farid posted her 2nd article of a series on the new Code.

There are far fewer changes to Bars than Beam.

Only 3 skills maximum will be counted from each of free hip swing, sole swing or Stalder.

Shaposh skills to kip will be deducted 0.5.

Jaeger piked inexplicably upgraded from  D to E. We won’t seeing many straddled Jaegers in Elite.

Girls suffer mental blocks far more than do boys. Most are backward skills. Often they appear during competitive season or during other stressful times.

Moving through skills too quickly can cause a breakdown of acquiring the confidence and achievement of successes the mind needs in order to move forward. Sometimes slowing down is the best medicine.  …

Especially don’t rush backwards skills. Use as many progressions as possible where there is minimal risk of injury IF something goes wrong on a backward skill. (e.g. Flyaway)

No surprise. But I am disappointed that the 2009 silver all-around medalist at Worlds did not have more success since that time.

He’s one of my favourite gymnasts from the U.K. all time.
