catching up with Thema Williams

I hadn’t seen Thema since that unfortunate competition — the Rio Test Meet.

She was trying to qualify Trinidad and Tobago to the Rio Olympics.

Recall her coach on the floor — John Geddert — wasn’t happy with podium training. Trinidad replaced him and Thema with another gymnast, last moment.

I was there. Very impressed with Thema in podium training, as usual. She has fantastic physical ability.

Thema’s now age-25.

She’s featured in Olympic Channel’s HER GAME series.

Dalaloyan leads Russian Championships

Artur Dalaloyan, the 2018 World AA champion and the 2019 World AA silver medalist, predictably took the lead in the competition today with 85.331 …

Dalaloyan was only slightly over 0.1 ahead of the rising star of the Russian team Aleksandr Kartsev (85.198). Nineteen-year-old Kartsev made his senior debut in 2019 and went to a couple of World Cups but wasn’t yet able to break onto major teams.  …

David Belyavskiy finished third with 83.198.

Tokyo World Cup cancelled

The Japan Gymnastics Association (JGA) and the FIG have agreed to cancel the All-Around World Cup scheduled in Tokyo on 4 May 2021, which was also set to serve as a test event for the Olympic Games in Artistic Gymnastics. …

To replace this test event, Tokyo 2020 will carry out an operational test on 4 May with a national Gymnastics event. …
