Simone, Suni, Jordan, Jade, Hezly

Despite injuries to 3 of the top contenders, I was still impressed with the level of difficulty. Almost all at U.S. Olympic trials would not look out of place in Paris.

Healy Rivera is only age-16. Her selection will be a surprise to many.

Spencer agrees with the decision:

Using best of the trials days, as well as the men’s methods—average across nationals and trials, and best 3 of 4 across nationals and trials—you also get the same team as the top five AA, which is exactly what the selection committee was looking for.

Joc and Leanne looked fantastic. If either has to step in, the U.S. would not be any diminished.

An American B-team might just finish on the podium.

So. Much. Depth.

If we picked gymnasts subjectively — as we do in sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc. — I’d still go Simone, Suni, Jordan, Jade. Pick the next strongest AA as first reserve.

#5 would be best chance to win an apparatus medal.

Jordan is the obvious captain.

USA will win team gold with any combination — so long as Simone competes. (Exactly what Tom Forster said about Tokyo.)

I watched the NBC coverage for the first time in years. Much improved from the past.

Simone to Paris

The greatest of all time has a chance to add to her medal total at the 2024 Olympics.

Certainly she’ll be one of the BIG STORIES over all sports.

Kaylia Nemour – Bars

So good. So consistent.

Kaylia scored 56.900 AA at the RomGym Trophy meet.

Shilese Jones withdraws from Olympic Trials

Vault landing mats in competition is the biggest RISK for major injury. The FIG really needs to improve that landing surface. Something like what is used in Double-Min would be safer.

One awkward landing on the vault …

Jones is one of three women who saw their hopes of reaching the Olympics end with injuries this week. Skye Blakely, who finished a strong second to Biles at the U.S. Championships last month, tore the Achilles tendon in her right leg during training on Wednesday.

Kayla DiCello, a 2020 Olympic alternate, ruptured her left Achilles tendon on vault on Friday.

Asher, Steve, Fred, Brody & Paul to Paris

USA is going with a Pommel specialist, as GBR has done so many times in the past.

Simone, Jordan, Suni, Jade

Top 4 AA after day 1 of Olympic trials.

The BIG sad story is injury: Skye Blakely tore her Achilles in podium training. Kayla DiCello out after a Vault landing. Shilese Jones only competed Bars.
