Utah gymnasts – free Jeep Grand Cherokee lease

Those who worried NIL was a slippery slope, were right.

  • Every student-athlete from those three sports โ€” womenโ€™s gymnastics, and menโ€™s and womenโ€™s basketball โ€” will have the opportunity of receiving a free lease on either a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited Edition or a 2024 Ram 1500 Big Horn Night Edition truck.
  • That is different than the football NIL opportunity announced in October in a couple different ways โ€” only scholarship football players were offered the opportunity, while this deal applies to all athletes on the gymnastic and menโ€™s and womenโ€™s basketball teams. Also, football players only had the Dodge Truck as an option.
  • Lease and insurance costs will be covered by donations to the Crimson Collective for each student-athlete.

Cal’s Liz Crandall-Howell interview

Like everyone, I’m a huge fan of Cal Berkeley since award winning Liz and Justin Howellย took over.

John Carney was named the WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year 2023, as well.

Certainly Cal is a contender for the Final 4 – 2024.

Listen to an excellent interview with Liz on the All Things Gymnastics Podcast.

Their gymnasts train more difficulty than they compete, in order to build confidence in their so-called easier routines.

Canada’s “Future of Sport” commission

Canadaโ€™s Minister of Sport, Carla Qualtrough, this afternoon announced a national commission to address safe-sport issues, but stopped short of calling a national inquiry.

… ย a suite of measures, including a Future of Sport in Canada Commission that will hold a summit and produce two reports during its 18-month mandate.

An independent commissioner and two special advisers will head the commission.

Among other measures announced were moving the new Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC) and its abuse-free program out of the Sports Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC), increasing the capacity of AthletesCan, elevating Sport Canada’s athlete advisory committee to a ministerial committee, modernizing Sport Canada’s funding framework and developing a sport integrity framework, with policies around match manipulation and safeguarding children.
