The World Cup in Tokyo on 4 May, which serves as a test event for the Games in Artistic Gymnastics, remains unaffected for the moment. …
According to the rules, the unused places go to the highest-ranked countries in the team ranking results of the qualifications at the 2019 World Championships.
The following countries, therefore, obtain an additional non-nominative berth for Tokyo 2020:
- Menβs Artistic Gymnastics: Russia, China and Japan.
- Womenβs Artistic Gymnastics: USA, China and Russia.
To date, 82 places out of 98 in Menβs Artistic and 84 out of 98 in Womenβs Artistic have already been allocated.
The remaining places at stake will be allocated through the Apparatus World Cup Series (the final stage of which is scheduled for 10β13 March in Doha, (QAT)) and the continental championships.
New Zealand apologizes for abuse
Gymnastics New Zealand has formally apologised to those in the community who have experienced abuse, following the release of the βconfronting, soberingβ independent review into the sport.
βWe’re sorry that those who have gone before and some of those currently engaged in our community who have suffered abuse and have suffered negative experiences as a result of participating in gymnastics,β Gymnastics New Zealand chief executive Tony Compier said.
βWe apologise for that unreservedly, and we will work hard with our community and our partners to address and redress that.
βWe commend the courage and bravery of those who have come forward to share their experiences.β …
