Pauline Schäfer is competing

Pauline was sad to be named travelling alternate for Worlds at home.

Due to an injury to the 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist on Bars, Sophie Scheder, Pauline will compete after all.

SUPPORT these amazing gymnasts

FANS are FANatics. In every sport.

They are passionate. I get it.

And I want more Gymnastics FANS, not fewer.

That said, lets try to keep your comments on social media as positive as possible. This sport is incredibly difficult.

#respect athletes, coaches, parents and officials.

the role of Worlds Alternate

Perhaps the most difficult job at Worlds is traveling alternate.

You do all the same work, … but probably won’t get to the BIG stage.

We all want an individual competition for those gymnasts immediately after Worlds. It would be a fantastic competition.

Pauline Schaefer is the alternate here at home.

Hurd, Melnikova, Chen Yile – part 2

This documentary episode was posted before Morgan was named a non-traveling alternate for USA. You can see how competing 3 meets back-to-back did not work out for her.

Both Angelina Melnikova and Chen Yile did qualify to Worlds.

Carly reflects on quitting Gymnastics

Once upon a time, I was a gymnast.

It was the only thing I knew, and the only thing I loved about myself.

I never had the opportunity or wherewithal to develop interests outside of my sport, and became dependant on it for validation in many ways. It was the common bond between my mother, my sisters (who also did gymnastics),and I.

It was the one arena where I, a quiet, shy introvert could stand out and showcase a special talent.

It was my only source of socialization or meaningful connection. And, like many high-level athletes across various sports, it became my identity. …

Today Carly promotes discussion on mental health. Her own and others.

Quitting Gymnastics can be traumatic. Like a divorce.

But there are many upsides, as well. The best I’ve seen on this topic is from a Freakonomics podcast — The Upside of Quitting

Akash Modi interview

Great gymnast. One impressive young man.

Not only is he currently pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, but he is also a world-class elite artistic gymnast who has his eyes set on making the U.S. men’s gymnastics Olympics team at Tokyo 2020. …

Who are your role models, both in life and in sports?

I try to follow Raj’s path the most, but I pull from everyone else who surrounds me. I try to pull qualities from my mom, dad, sister, and my teammates at Stanford. …

How do you want to be remembered in the sport of gymnastics? What do you think you would add to the US Olympic team?

I want to be remembered the guy you can always count on — you can put him up and he’s always going to do a solid routine for you, no matter what.

One of Katelyn’s best interviews.

To the few confused people still out there — Katelyn takes ownership of her own body. Not going to listen to others to tell her what to think or what to do.
