spelling of Shaposhnikova

Both Shaposhnikova and Schaposchnikova are still to be found in the FIG WAG Code. Has nobody every edited the names in that document?

I often default to the translation used in Wikipedia where folks argue to some consensus.

Natalia Vitalyevna Shaposhnikova (Russian: Наталья Витальевна Шапошникова), (born June 24, 1961), married name Natalia Sout, was a Soviet gymnast, two-time Olympic Champion, Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR. She was born in Rostov on Don, …

On her club website the spelling is Natalia Shaposhnikova, as well. She coaches at Gymnastika in New Jersey.

related – Elena Shushunova and Elena Schuschunova are both still used in the 2020 Code, as well. 😦

Are there others?

Starting 2017 Confederación Sudamericana de Gimnasia will host international age group competitions using the FIG rules. A Continental Championship for gymnasts below Junior age.

I understand the Central American and Caribbean Games will use FIG Age Group rules in future, as well.

It’s not easy for judges to see that foot separation at full speed.

2020 Code of Points – Beam

Gigi spent a week reviewing changes to the 2020 Code of Points on Beam. She wrote those up illustrating many with GIFs.

Must read. It’s the best overview 2020 Beam I’ve seen yet.

Don’t count on everything in that  post being exactly correct. There are so many changes that I anticipate future clarifications for years to come.

Personally I’m happy that FIG gymnasts no longer feel pressured to do a D dismount as dismount is no longer a 0.5 Special Requirement. Sticking a C dismount will be the best strategy for many around the world.
