These kinds of drills are fun. But I wouldn’t do too many of them as the body position is incorrect for the final goal. It takes much less rotation to punch than to do the actual Yurchenko.
They are good for orientation of twisting, however.

From this list I’d say Rudi looks the most over-valued. (Smart to train.)
It’s very similar to Kasamatsu + 1/1 (what WAG calls Tsuk double twist) yet that vault is worth 0.2 less.
– Produnova (7.0 > 6.4)
– Rudi (6.2 > 5.8)
– Tsukahara full (5.2 > 4.8)
– Tsukahara 1.5 (5.5 > 5.2)
– Tsukahara double full (6.0 > 5.6)
– Tsukahara 2.5 (6.5 > 6.0)
– FTY (5.0 > 4.6)
– 1.5 Yurchenko (5.3 > 5.0)
– DTY (5.8 > 5.4)

– Cheng (6.4 > 6.0)… The vault devaluations are to account for the gymnasts losing 0.5 in requirements on the other three apparatuses. Requirements are worth 2.0 instead of 2.5.
Personally I’d prefer the Produnova be banned rather than count on FIG WTC to massage the rules to the point where dangerous ones are no longer attempted.

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Jury of Appeal, has upheld a protest lodged by GymSports NZ on behalf of it’s athlete, Courtney McGregor. The protest concerned McGregor’s score on the vault apparatus, specifically her second vault.
After Courtney completed her second vault, the score for this vault, and then her average of the two vault scores was shown. Approximately 20 minutes later, the second vault score was amended which consequently brought the average score down.
“We protested on two key points of the competition rules.” said Tony Compier – GymSports NZ CEO. “Firstly, that neither the coach nor the athlete were afforded the opportunity to challenge the down-grading of the score before it was changed. Secondly, the competition rules state that once a score is ‘published’, i.e. shown in the arena, it cannot be changed at a later date.”
The result of the successful appeal is that McGregor is elevated from 16th to 13th position. …

Clearly FIG rules reward difficulty too much relative to execution. There’s too much incentive to chuck double fronts and Yurchenko triple twist despite a very low chance of landing safely. I’m embarrassed for FIG WTC. The E-score judges are ranking, not judging. Ranking in a very small range.

NBC Prime did not bother showing any of Ellie’s routines focusing instead on Seda’s terrible day. 😦 Serious Gymnastics fans and coaches should avoid NBC Prime’s edited version of international competitions. All of the available alternatives are more objective & show more routines.
