The great Vladimir Markelov is almost exactly my own age.
Dead far too soon. Age-66.
It does seem many former Russian gymnasts die young.
He was a 1976 and 1980 Olympian for the Soviet Union.
His name is remembered for the Markelov release on Bars and H Bar.
It was pointed out to me that in 2021, life expectancy at birth for women in Russia was about 74.77 years, while life expectancy at birth for men was about 64.21 years on average.
Putin’s kleptocracy seems to be bad for citizen’s health.

At PanAms, Costa Rican gymnast, Andrés Valverde, used what you might call Double Layout over the bar with double twist.
A single twist is named for Dan Hayden.
The Valverde is a dismount I’ve never seen before. Should be a new element in the Code of Points.
Note – Andrés competed in Santiago only 7 months after Achilles surgery.
