At Europeans the best piked Stalder was shown by Diana Varinska. Very deep hip flexion.
You could argue this is this is the ONLY kind of piked Stalder that should upgrade a swing. Many gymnasts barely get their feet past the Bar.

Very clean. No turning angle deduction.

In second place was Elena Eremina. Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.
6.0 D, 8.300 E
I felt the judges got that E-score wrong. The Nabieva is amazing. Amazing with an execution deduction. Followed by many more small errors. And at least a medium error on a way late 1/1 turn.
It’s impossible to have those two routines less than 0.3 apart.
1. Nina Derwael BEL 14.633
2. Elena Eremina RUS 14.300
3. Elisabeth Seitz GER 14.133
3. Ellie Downie GBR 14.133
Why don’t I recognize the Belgian National anthem? That’s right. This is the first Europeans Gold medal ever.
Big credit to the Federation and all the gymnasts who built up to this historic result.
What should have been the best and most competitive final went poorly, as Apparatus Finals sadly so often do. 😦 Defending Champion Rebecca Downie was injured and couldn’t finish her routine.
Elena Eremina again competed a fantastic Nabieva release. But I wouldn’t have ranked her in the top 3 due to poor form and angle deductions.
I didn’t have access to LIVE scores at the arena. And didn’t pay much attention to scores in any case … but one routine that jumped out at me as too high was Zsofia in the AA Final.

Melanie was 8.300 E-score. Ellie 8.400 E-score. Elena (VIDEO) 8.300 E-score. Zsofia was not as clean as any of those three, in my opinion.

The best Bars routine at Europeans in my opinion.

No surprise. Valentina Rodionenko blamed the judges for the fact that Elena Eremina finished 4th AA, Melanie 3rd AA. Elena fell on her Beam mount.
The judges got the ranking correct. The rest of the world is catching up to Russia in women’s Artistic Gymnastics. Especially on Bars.
OUR RUSSIAN SEASON feels that the Russian Men are on the rise (for sure!) while the WAG program has serious problems.
