Congratulations University of Iowa

The team just missed qualifying to the final 16 — but I’d call Iowa 2021 one of the success stories of the season.

Leaders in social justice, too.

Lynnzee Brown to Haiti?

Lynnzee’s story at Denver is already historic.

She’s yet to announce whether or not she’ll compete a 5th season — and whether or not she’ll continue to train for Elite.

While competing for Team U.S.A. would be an enticing option, Brown is also drawn to her heritage and would love to pursue a dual citizenship from her father’s home country of Haiti. Although the island country does not have a gymnastics team or a training program in the U.S., she views this as an opportunity to create something new before the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Varsity Gymnastics, Calgary

I visited Calgary’s newest Gymnastics Facility.

Former Canadian National Team Head Coach Tony Smith was installing an ancient Pommel Horse above the entrance. Mason climbed up for some photos.

When the University of Calgary cancelled competitive Gymnastics programs, the club moved across the street into a Gym shared with Volleyball and Wrestling.

Double Olympian Nathan Gafuik is Head Coach. Joel Cornelius the Ninja Program Director. Mason Smith General Manager.

As inflatable buildings go, this one is excellent.

It’s a work in progress. I saw the plans for the above ground pit system.

Tony Smith is also a sales rep for AAI and Spalding so is well connected with facility design.

The Parkour / Ninja area will soon be completed. Certain to be very popular, located so close to Calgary’s biggest University.

Check them out at VarsityGymnastics.ca.

GBR teams to Europeans

Interesting.

Highest priority must be trying to place gymnasts in the top 2 AA who did not compete the 2019 World Championships.

That would qualify an additional Olympian.

Ondine Achampong (Sapphire), Phoebe Jakubczyk (The Academy), Brinn Bevan (South Essex), James Hall (Pegasus) and Adam Tobin (Falcons) have been named as non-travelling reserves.

Auburn withdraws from Regionals

The Auburn gymnastics team will not compete at the 2021 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Championship this weekend due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the program.

The action is consistent with COVID-19 management requirements put forth by the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference.

Spencer weighs in on how that affects everyone else:

The NCAA won’t redo brackets if the withdrawal happens more than 24 hours after they are made …
