2024 American Girl of the Year is a GYMNAST

2024 is an Olympic year.

American Girl — the toy company — has announced its 2024 Girl of the Year—Lila Monetti.

She’s a 10-year-old growing up in Minnesota who is developing new hobbies and pushing through challenges. Both a horseback rider and competitive gymnast.

Minnesota? Isn’t Olympic Champion Suni Lee from Minnesota?

MUST be a coincidence.

Women’s Team Final result

GBR took the early momentum lead, winning the INTRO dance. 😀

But the big surprise was the Olympic host nation taking the Bronze.

USA

Brazil

France

I really enjoyed the competition. A thriller.

There were falls. And some personal BEST EVER routines.

Great Gymnastics overall.

Italy really impressed despite not having some of their biggest stars in this line-up.

Hashimoto Daiki on TEAM Gold

This feels better than his individual World and Olympic AA titles.

Men’s Team Final wrap-up

Japan was very happy to get back atop the Worlds team podium.

China brought in a replacement gymnast — perhaps the only one with a current visa for Europe. And it worked.

coach fired for calling gymnasts ‘beautiful’

Lindsay Nylund was fired from his role as a high-performance coach … in Sydney (Australia), in May, after he sent an email to parents with a picture of his winning team, describing them as “beautiful”.

“Hi all … Our beautiful FDLC Level 8 Women’s Artistic Gymnasts,” he wrote in the email in February, following a competition win.

… “Parents were outraged [over his termination], the coaching staff were outraged, everyone was outraged … Most people are flabbergasted, they can’t believe it. They think this is ridiculous.” …

Determined to get his job back, Mr Nylund has taken the case to the Industrial Relations Commission. …

According to The Australian, the council listed three other allegations in their termination notice, including that Mr Nylund “showed a lack of respect to management” by allowing a one-week membership fee freeze when it should have been two weeks.

He also allegedly transported athletes without parent consent and attended a social event at a local club, which the council claimed breached Child Safe Practice guidelines. …

A four-day hearing at the NSW IRC has been set for mid-November.
