Full results.

As usual, the men’s competition was full of drama and surprise.

I was very surprise when — last rotation — GBR missed on H Bar, Russia HIT Rings to pull ahead.

I was very surprised when Italy — also on Rings last apparatus — hit to pull ahead of Switzerland. They took it with the last stick, last routine of the meet.

Congratulations to all the teams. It was an entertaining competition in the best Gymnastics venue in the world.

Russia leads European Jr MAG …

after the second subdivision of three.

Like MAGNASTICS, I was convinced GBR had won the team competition … despite having a fairly disastrous final apparatus, H Bar.

After all, they’d won this meet: 2008/2010/2012/2014/2016.

And they looked fantastic, aside from H Bar.

Nope. Men’s Gymnastics is thrilling. And unpredictable.

After 2nd subdivision of three …

1. RUS
2. GBR
3. UKR
4. GER
5. BLR
6. HUN
7. ROU
8. NOR

There is no team final. Today decides TEAM and AA.

My guess is RUS and GBR will finish 1/2. But my MAG predictions are more often wrong, than correct.

BRETSCHNEIDER – H Bar

One of the big disappointments of the qualification round was seeing Andreas miss the H Bar final … because of a missed Weiler. ☹️

No handstand at the start.
Muscling into circles out of Flair.
BIG form break, hitting the horse. Twice.

8.200 is too high, I feel.

Max had 8.541 E-score winning Worlds 2017. Watch that routine.

former coach Jeff Thompson sues Penn State

Former Penn State women’s gymnastics coach Jeff Thompson filed a lawsuit accusing the university of disregarding its duty to protect his reputation after the university mandated he not speak with the media. …

According to the lawsuit, increasing pressure from alumni and the media prompted Rachelle Thompson to resign June 30, 2016. Jeff Thompson continued as coach and began filming all practices with an iPad to protect against potential allegations. …

“Coach Thompson was terminated for comments made between him and assistant coaches Josh Nilson and Kera Molinaro, which occurred in his private office or public areas with no one else around” the lawsuit said. …

Why this former Penn State coach is suing and what he hopes to get

Recall all the problems back then. The accusations were of mental and verbal abuse. Read why one of the Penn gymnasts — Alyssa DiFrancesco — quit.
