At NHK he did what is becoming his usual thing on HB, scoring 15.333. This gives him another 40 points towards selection for Japan’s +1 spot. 

Yonekura Hidenobu scored a vault average of 15.050, lower than his scores from All Japan but enough to earn him 30 points.

This means that provisionally, both Kohei and Hidenobu have 110 points, so Event Championships will be key to deciding who gets the spot.

Unfortunately Minami Kazuki withdrew from NHK with a calf injury, which I think takes him out of Olympic contention, though hopefully he will return for Event Championships. …

Arizona State rolled to their 14th straight team championship at the 2021 USA Gymnastics Collegiate GymACT Championships Saturday at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

ASU (314.350) finished a full 13 points ahead of runner up Washington (301.050). The University of Illinois-Chicago (284.600), SC United (281.350) and Temple (280.550) rounded out the top five. …

It was Murakami’s third NHK Trophy championship. She missed the 2019 competition (2020 was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19) with a lower-back injury, which also forced her out of the world championships that year.

“The last three years have felt really long, with corona, the injury and everything else,” Murakami said.

“But through it all, I’ve been able to rekindle my love for gymnastics and feel like I’ve become a better competitor, a better person.

“I had a few hiccups today but I managed to win and make the team. I’m going to take tomorrow off but then I’ll be right back at it for the Olympics” …
