Zsofia Kovacs – Bars

I didn’t have access to LIVE scores at the arena. And didn’t pay much attention to scores in any case … but one routine that jumped out at me as too high was Zsofia in the AA Final.

14.333 = (6.0 + 8.333)

Melanie was 8.300 E-score. Ellie 8.400 E-score. Elena (VIDEO) 8.300 E-score. Zsofia was not as clean as any of those three, in my opinion.

Final 6 Men’s NCAA Gymnastics teams

The qualifying teams are Oklahoma (430.60), Illinois (421.30), Stanford (420.45), Minnesota (420.10), Ohio State (414.65) and Nebraska (413.05). …

Nebraska earned a trip to the Finals for the first time since 1999.  It was a well-earned reward for an inspiring team. …

The top-ranked Sooners were in cruise control all night, even giving Yul Moldauer and Allan Bower a little rest. …

NCAA Session 2 Recap

NCAA scores are higher than FIG.

The team, all-around and event champions will be crowned during Saturday’s team finals. Bonus points are also available for stuck dismounts on every event but pommel horse. A ‘C’ dismount can earn 0.10, and a ‘D’ or above can add 0.20. Any stuck vault earns 0.10 regardless of its value.

Melanie de Jesus dos Santos – Bars

The best Bars routine at Europeans in my opinion.

No surprise. Valentina Rodionenko blamed the judges for the fact that Elena Eremina finished 4th AA, Melanie 3rd AA. Elena fell on her Beam mount.

The judges got the ranking correct. The rest of the world is catching up to Russia in women’s Artistic Gymnastics. Especially on Bars.

OUR RUSSIAN SEASON feels that the Russian Men are on the rise (for sure!) while the WAG program has serious problems.

why are there no LIVE results at Europeans?

SmartScoring seems to have bungled the European Gymnastics Championships. No statement. No apology. I assume it’s the last time they’ll get a job with Gymnastics.

Here’s what you’ll see on their Facebook page. Every second matters. But we’ve gone 3 days with no LIVE results.

are Arabians forward or backward tumbling?

MAG Code:

All Arabian elements are in the group of acrobatic elements backward, Example Arabian double front 1⁄2 = same as double back 1/1 (D value). The following Arabian elements (Jump bwd. with 1⁄2 t. to double salto fwd.) have the same value and Code box as the bwd. double salto element with the same amount of twisting: Arabian dbl. str. 1⁄2 (Penev), Arabian dbl. str. (Tamayo), and Arabian dbl. str. 1/1 (Hypolito).

WAG Code:

Arabian elements are considered Forward Elements

There is an argument for both. But FIG should standardize on one or the other. If only Steve Butcher had the FIG job looking at inconsistencies like this. 🙂

arabian-double-front

The takeoff is more critical than the landing position in my opinion. Arabians are much more a backwards tumbling skill than forwards.

Hattie points out that a backward layout with 1 1/2 twist lands forward like Arabian, but no-one would argue it’s a forward tumbling element.

Women’s all-around official results.

Whatever happened to the cliché of British gymnasts being inconsistent? Ellie hit 8/8 huge difficulty routines.

The top 4 had a terrific battle for the podium. Elena fell on Beam mount. Zsofia got a bit of a gift on Bars. But the ranking ended up correct.

Melanie from France has amazing potential. I’m going to be following her closely from here on in.

Kim. Martina. Fantastic gymnasts. Nina and Filipa should be very proud of their performances.

A great meet. 🙂
