The Busy Fan was surprised to hear of all the hate directed towards Al Trautwig during the Olympics.
After all, he’s the everyman of the NBC Primetime commentary team. The one who’s supposed to make the casual fan feel less stupid in not understanding all the nuance.

NBC Primetime seems to work for the casual fan. Coaches should watch pretty much any other source of coverage. All are better for us than NBC Primetime.
Personally I always enjoy listening to Tim Daggett. He’s a coach. He knows what he’s talking about. Of the three he does by far the most research in advance of the competition.

NBC Primetime Olympic coverage sucks
NBC’s 2016 Olympics broadcast is the lowest-rated in years.
I’ll say it again. Serious Gymnastics fans should boycott NBC Primetime.
(The NBC live streaming coverage is pretty good, I hear. But I couldn’t watch it myself as I didn’t have a login. NBC was too fearful to offer something like a one time $35 online Olympics package.)
NBC’s TV coverage is the worst in the world
Starting on the wrong foot, NBC delayed the opening ceremony by one hour on the east coast of the U.S. and by four hours on the west coast of the U.S. The bizarre nature of the American delay caused mass confusion on social media, where the ceremony was being tweeted about in real time. …
Fake, Jingoistic, And Stupid: Gymnastics Coverage Is The Worst Part Of NBC’s Olympics
… The coverage is fragmented, with fans seeing a routine or two, then being bombarded with ads. This procedure is repeated two or three more times until NBC cuts away to another sport. …
I don’t blame the commentary. It’s the Network mucky mucks who need to be replaced.

I like Golf. But it doesn’t fit with the other Olympic sports. I’d drop it.
Hamblin & D’Agostino Olympic sportsmanship medals
I love Olympic stories like these. 🙂
They have been awarded the Pierre de Coubertin medal, which has only been awarded previously 17 times in Olympic history.
Hamblin tripped and fell during the semi-final race and brought D’Agostino crashing down behind her.
D’Agostino was quickly up on her feet, but then stopped and helped Hamblin up and encouraged her to run with her. But the American then realised she had injured her knee – in fact she had torn her anterior cruciate ligament – and urged Hamblin to race on. But the Kiwi refused to leave her side and they completed the race together.
